What this unit converter does

Convert measurements across common length, area, volume, mass, temperature, speed, time, pressure, energy, power, data, frequency, force, torque, angle and fuel-economy units.

How to use the calculator

Select a category, choose the source and target units, then enter a value. Temperature and fuel-economy conversions require formulas that are not simple multiplication, so the calculator handles those separately.

How the calculation works

Conversions use fixed mathematical relationships for the supported units. Temperature uses an offset as well as a scale factor; fuel economy requires reciprocal relationships between certain units.

What the result means

Example: 1 mile equals 1.609344 kilometers. The converter uses exact defined relationships where applicable and displays a rounded result for readability.

Important assumptions and limitations

Unit labels matter. US and Imperial gallons differ, and binary data units such as KiB and MiB are not identical to decimal KB and MB. Choose the exact unit that matches your source.

Frequently asked questions

Are US and Imperial units the same?
No. US and Imperial gallons differ, so fuel-economy conversions distinguish US MPG from Imperial MPG.
What is the difference between KB and KiB?
KB is a decimal unit based on 1,000 bytes, while KiB is a binary unit based on 1,024 bytes. The converter keeps those definitions separate.
How are temperature conversions handled?
Celsius, Fahrenheit and Kelvin require both a scale factor and an offset, so they are converted with their standard equations rather than simple multiplication.
Which fuel-economy formulas are used?
US MPG and L/100 km use the standard reciprocal relationship, while Imperial MPG uses the corresponding Imperial-gallon conversion factor.
