Percentage Calculator
Calculate percentages and percent changes.
What this percentage calculator does
Solve common percentage problems including finding a percentage of a number, the percent difference and percentage change.
How to use the calculator
Choose the calculation that matches your question, then enter the relevant numbers. Be careful about the reference value when calculating percentage change.
How the calculation works
For “x percent of y,” the result is x/100 × y. Percentage change is (new − old) ÷ old × 100. Percentage difference uses the absolute difference divided by the average of the two values.
What the result means
Example: 15% of 200 is 30. A change from 200 to 230 is a 15% increase.
Important assumptions and limitations
Percentage change and percentage difference are not interchangeable. Always identify which value is the baseline when describing an increase or decrease.
Frequently asked questions
The calculator shows a percentage of a number, the percent change between an original and new value, and the absolute difference.
Percent change equals (new value minus original value) divided by the original value, multiplied by 100.
Percent change is shown as not applicable because division by zero is undefined.
No. Percent changes are applied to the current value, so the second 20% change is based on a different amount.
