What each option may cost
All options use the same comparison period. Purchase options subtract estimated resale value.
How the Lease vs. Buy Calculator works
Compare a lease with buying the same vehicle using cash or an auto loan. Pick Lease vs. Cash, Lease vs. Finance, Lease vs. Cash vs. Finance, or Buy Only (Cash vs. Finance). The form reveals only the sections that apply.
What the calculation includes
The lease estimate uses monthly payments, total due at signing, additional contract fees, estimated return charges and any entered mileage or wear charges. Buying with cash uses vehicle price, estimated sales tax, fees, selected add-ons, maintenance and other ownership costs. Financing uses down payment, APR, loan term, financing fees and add-ons with their chosen payment treatment, scheduled payments over the comparison period, and any remaining loan balance.
Resale value assumptions
Resale value can be estimated using the entered depreciation rate, entered manually, or researched using the vehicle lookup link. The automated depreciation option is a planning assumption, not a market valuation. Actual resale value depends on mileage, condition, title, trim and local demand.
What this calculator does not assume
It does not automatically retrieve dealer quotes, insurance premiums, fuel costs or a guaranteed future resale price. Sales tax is a simple estimate on the vehicle price; trade-in tax credits and state-specific lease/purchase tax rules are not modeled. Use actual contracts and local tax rules for a precise quote.
