Home Improvement Cost Calculator
Choose a project and enter measurements directly, or use the optional dimension helpers where available. Get a low, typical and high planning estimate; only relevant fields appear for each project.
Before calculating: Review all fields. Any prefilled numbers or default selections are starting examples, not verified personal details; update them to match your situation. Complete any fields left blank.
Roof replacement estimate
Planning range based on the measurements, material and assumptions you select.
How the Home Improvement Cost Calculator works
Choose a project—roof replacement, kitchen or bathroom remodeling, flooring, interior painting, fencing, deck installation or a whole-home renovation. The form displays the measurements and assumptions relevant to the selected job.
Address-based roof measurement
For roof replacement, an address lookup can request the main structure’s roof area and predominant pitch from RoofTap’s Lite API after the site owner has configured the private API key. High-confidence measurements are flagged separately from lower-confidence results; when RoofTap supplies a lower-confidence area, CalcResults labels it for review and may provide a link to refine the building selection. All returned areas are estimates, cover the primary structure only, and can be edited. If no usable area is returned, enter the roof area manually. Do not use a footprint or indoor home area as a substitute for roof surface area.
Cost data and limitations
Unit cost bands are planning assumptions informed by published home-project cost guides and rounded into low, typical and high scenarios. Costs can vary with labor market, material availability, access, condition, permits, geometry and project scope. The ZIP option maps the ZIP to a state in the browser and applies the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) 2024 Regional Price Parity (RPP), all-items index, as a broad statewide multiplier to the estimated project-rate bands. BEA RPP measures overall price-level differences, not construction bids; it is therefore a rough regional proxy, not a verified remodeling labor/material index or ZIP-level quote. Actual contractor prices can vary within the same state. A contractor quote is needed for a site-specific price.

Frequently asked questions
No. Coverage, geocoding, satellite imagery and confidence vary by property. Lower-confidence measurements, when returned, are clearly flagged for review; when no usable area is returned, enter or calculate roof area manually.
No. The calculator returns low, typical and high planning estimates, based on broad unit cost ranges and the inputs you provide. Permits, hidden damage, special access and local labor can change the final amount.
In automatic mode, the calculator maps the five-digit ZIP to a state and applies that state's 2024 BEA all-items Regional Price Parity as a broad regional multiplier. This is state-level general price data, not a construction-specific index or a local contractor quote. Leave ZIP blank to use the national baseline.
Yes. Automatically retrieved roof area and pitch are prefilled for review, and you can adjust them before calculating.
