What this credit card payoff calculator does

Estimate credit-card payoff time and interest using your balance, APR and planned monthly payment.

How to use the calculator

Use your current balance and APR, then compare a realistic payment with a higher payment to see how the payoff timeline changes. Avoid entering a payment that you cannot sustain.

How the calculation works

The calculator models monthly interest and applies each payment against the balance until the balance reaches zero. It assumes no new purchases, fees or changes to the APR.

What the result means

Example: increasing a fixed payment above the minimum can shorten payoff time and reduce interest, assuming no new charges.

Important assumptions and limitations

Credit-card terms can include variable APRs, fees, promotional periods and minimum-payment rules. Your issuer’s statement and card agreement control the actual balance and payment requirements.

Frequently asked questions

How long will it take to pay off my card?
The calculator simulates monthly interest and payments until the balance reaches zero, assuming the APR and payment stay constant and no new charges are added.
What if my payment is too low?
If the payment does not exceed the first month's interest, the balance cannot be amortized under the model, so the calculator asks you to increase the payment.
Does it include new purchases?
No. The calculation assumes no new charges, cash advances or additional fees after the starting balance.
Why can my card statement differ?
Card issuers can use daily periodic rates, transaction timing, fees and different minimum-payment rules, so a general monthly model can differ from a statement.
